Mint and Garlic Naan

Soft and Easy Mint and Garlic Naan without Yeast

This recipe is for Mint and Garlic Naan which is soft and easy to make without yeast. Follow the step-by-step instructions to make the softest naan with Flour, Greek Yogurt, Baking Soda, and Baking Powder to go with your favorite Curry or Lentils.

I always have extra Naan or Kulcha in my cupboard because they go so well with Indian curries. But because of the lockdown, I’m out of everything. So I decided to make this super-easy naan with flavors of garlic and mint.

Who doesn’t like Garlic Naan? When chopped Mint Leaves are sprinkled on top, it gives it a nice, unique taste. My garden is full of mint that I grew myself. So, I put mint in just about everything. It makes the food taste clean and fresh.

Why Is This Naan So Easy?

This recipe for bread doesn’t use yeast as most do. Yeast is often added to bread to make the dough rise. But I used yogurt instead of yeast to make this naan, along with baking soda and baking powder. This will help the dough rise.

Yeast is almost impossible to find in stores these days. So I thought of making some easy bread recipes that don’t need yeast. Forever, I’ve been making this bread. It goes well with Chole/Chickpea Curry in the Delhi Style or Matar Chaat.

Things to Use

• FLOUR: When I make Naan, I use All-Purpose Flour. For Whole Wheat Naan, you can also add whole wheat flour. Or, if you want to make something that is gluten-free, you can add a Gluten-Free Flour Mix.

• YOGURT: You can use any kind of yogurt, like plain or Greek. If you add yogurt to the dough, it will help it rise.

• BAKING SODA AND BAKING POWDER: Baking soda and baking powder make the Naan soft when they are mixed with yogurt.

• OIL/BUTTER: You can add a little oil or butter to the dough and also to the pan when grilling.

• TASTE: I added garlic and mint to give it a taste. You can make simple garlic naan, plain naan, onion naan, and so on, depending on what you like. Just sprinkle the seasoning on top of the naan before cooking it on a grill.

How to Make Mint & Garlic Naan

2. REST THE DOUGH: Let the dough rest in the Instant Pot until it gets bigger. You can also put it on a counter or somewhere warm for 1 to 2 hours.

3. CUT THE DOUGH: Cut the dough into 4 to 6 pieces of the same size. Then roll them into balls that are 1 inch across.

4. ROLLING THE DOUGH: Dust a bowl with a little flour, then use a rolling pin or your hands to roll the dough. Add the chopped garlic and mint leaves and press them down a bit.

5. COOK THE NAAN: Put the naan in a pan and flip it when bubbles start to form. Then brush both sides with oil and cook.

6. Serve with your favorite curry and have fun!
